Caterpillar Rough Terrain Forklifts

Caterpillar Rough Terrain Forklifts

Rough Terrain Forklift Safety
Designed for construction sites, where materials must be transported on surfaces that are not paved are rough terrain forklifts. The safe and correct use of rough terrain forklifts is vital to ensure the wellbeing of both the operator and other employees at the work site.

Even if these trucks are made for rough terrain, you still must be really careful in order prevent tip overs. The forklift is top heavy and should just be operated on level ground when lifting.

Drivers of forklifts must always drive at a safe speed even if there are no Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations governing the speed restrictions of forklifts. Driving on rough or uneven terrain requires even more caution. Steering, in particular, can be dangerous at faster speeds.

Keep the load on the uphill side of the machine when operating on an incline. The rule of thumb is drive up, and back down. Do not attempt to raise a load if operating on a sloped surface. The change in the center of gravity can cause the equipment to tip over.

Safety Devices
Drivers of forklifts must always put on seat belts like any driver. Check that the overhead guard is firmly in place. Depending on the working environment, hearing and eye protection might need to be worn. Make sure that a working fire extinguisher is mounted on the forklift.

Climate can affect forklift operating conditions. Turning, load handling and speed might need to be adjusted to guarantee safety when operating a forklift in ice, rain or snow.
