The forklift is a popular piece of machines utilized to carry and lift goods and supplies on jobsites such as construction and warehousing. Lift trucks now are available in varying classes and are powered with various sources. Today, electric forklifts have become popular for several industries. They are powered by rechargeable lead-acid batteries which are larger and more powerful than batteries used for cars. In this broad category of electric forklift, there are various sub-types distinguished by several common specifications.
Load capacity refers to the amount of weight which a specific type of lift truck could support.
The vertical lift travel of the lift truck is the stroke. It describes the amount of difference between the fully-loaded and fully-raised positions of the particular lift truck.
Classes of forklift categorize machines by type in an effort to organize the features of the different models. Forklifts are divided into eight classes. Classes I, II, and III pertain to electric lift trucks. Class I forklifts include electric motor trucks engineered to be ridden by the operator while in operation. Class II electric lift trucks are made for efficiency in narrow aisle environments and are recommended for stocking and pulling products inside a warehouse. Class III electric lift trucks are motor-powered hand trucks which are utilized by an individual who walks at the rear of the model.
The battery specifications help to provide the required information pertaining to its performance. On the lift truck is a plate that identifies the volts put out from the battery. The battery weight would normally be specified on the forklift as well, because that specification is required to know the amount of weight the lift truck must support. Typically the information also includes the weight of the forklift truck without the battery.
The input is the energy the battery of the forklift is designed to accept while charging. This is really an important condition. For example, an electric forklift may be able to accept either 460 or 230 volts at a time.
