When these conditions are detected, SAS immediately engages the Swing Lock Cylinder to stabilize the rear axle. When this mechanism is engaged, the stability footprint of the lift truck is changed from being triangular in shape to rectangular. This change in stance leads to an increase in stability and substantially lessens the chance of a lateral overturn from happening. The Active Mast Function or the Active Control Rear Stabilizer also adds more stability and greatly helps accidents and injuries from happening.
