History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The company's first name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machines. During 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
