Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is located on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile that is great for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machinery utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator would need to move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is particularly designed for surfaces that are uneven. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This specific unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled models. These machinery offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to keep in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
