Lift Truck Battery Safety
The power to run electric forklifts is provided by huge industrial batteries which have to be charged frequently and maintained properly. Safety measures must be followed while connecting the battery to the charger. It is really important to inspect fluid levels in the battery.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is essential for employees working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG comprise goggles, safety glasses, or a full face shield. The best way to protect clothes and skin from other residue or leaked acid is to put on thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
Next to the charging area must be an emergency eyewash station. The path to the post must not be obstructed and an injured employee must be able to reach the eyewash post from the charging place in 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The charger must be the same amperage as the battery. It should be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open flames are not allowed in the vicinity of a battery and charging area. Do not allow items such as lighters or matches to be utilized while someone is inspecting the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
It is important to keep the battery charging place well ventilated. The recharging method can cause fumes to be released. These gases are both toxic and explosive.
