Reach Truck
A reach truck is utilized to store supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck comes in several types: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The most basic type is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide underneath the pallet and move it to the appropriate storage place. The forks slide the pallet into place. This particular type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet deep.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, that is similar to the stand-up, is commonly utilized. This version has telescopic forks designed to place the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when one more pallet has to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not only slide under the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This version is best in situations where goods will not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
In nearly all warehouses, there are normally more than one type of reach truck. Textile firms and manufacturing facilities utilize different kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to operate and can maximize available storage space while increasing production.
