Manitou Forklifts Maine
Regular inspections can really help to reduce forklift maintenance and save you copious amounts of money eventually. The standing joke within the business is a forklift technician coining the saying "Pay me now, or pay me later," as it usually costs more to procrastinate when it comes to forklifts. Like for example, the minor fixes that go unrepaired can later turn into costly repairs.
Tilt Cylinders
Oil leaks are a very serious concern if they are not checked. Inspect for oil leaks or damage regularly. Oil leakage can cause uncontrolled mast movement and this could be extremely dangerous. Whether the leaks are outside or in the cylinder, the end result could lead to cylinder drift and loss of vital fluid. When leaks or damage are detected, you typically will have to replace the complete cylinder assembly or the seals.
Chains
You don't want mast lift chains to stretch beyond acceptable limits, so pay attention and watch carefully for any signs of damage or wear and tear. Check regularly with a chain wear gauge so as to monitor the wear. If the chain is rusted or worn beyond 2 percent, it is time to replace the chain. Following these tips will help keep your machine running optimally.
Mast
The mast has to be smoothly moving down and up when operating the lift control lever. Be sure to check to see if the mast is tilting backwards and forwards in a smooth manner. You may need to lubricate the mast strip sliding surfaces if the sliding surfaces are binding. Also lubricate their fittings, because there is a fitting located on both sides of the inner mast. The lift bracket side rollers are one more lubrication spot.
Forks
Inspect the forks and check for cracks, damage and wear. It is vital to remember that cracked or worn blades can possibly fail without any warning. Any fork damage of course means taking the truck out of service at once. If the cracks are deeper than just on the surface, they have to be replaced as they really can't be safely fixed.
